Fever - Sunday Jazz at The Lion Basford in Mono

I don't often post two photos of the same subject , but I will post two photos from Sunday afternoon at The Lion, Basford, Nottingham

One photo in colour and one in mono. This is Sarah Simmonds who sings with the Shipstone Street Jazz Orchestra, who are a community based big band playing standards from the 1930s to the 1970s

The venue is a old pub, quiet a small venue, which was packed out for the event.

The room was quite dark and I didn't think it appropriate to be using flash in a pub, so I upped the ISO , opened the aperture wide and got a few grainy photos, which quite suits the genre well.

I usually prefer mono to colour, but in this instance I might just be wavering towards the colour shot (which will be posted tomorrow).

Sony A6000, Sony 50mm f1,8 lens and post processed in GIMP

Oh and the photo title, Sarah and the audience are all clicking their fingers to "Fever"....

Never know how much I love you
Never know how much I care
When you put your arms around me
I get a fever that's so hard to bear
You give me fever .....

You can sing along and click if you wish :)
very nice capture

I’m not a B&W person but I have to admit I prefer this one may be because of the drama in her posture

@phil_howcroft Ah, music is my first love! I am a pianist and singer, also a songwriter and have dabbled as an arranger and conductor too. Play a little flute, violin, bass and a few others but piano and voice are my “home” instruments. Don’t do so much these days as it all took a back seat when I became a mother, but it’s still a love of mine.

@casablanca Casa' my eldest daughter is a Music teacher at a secondary school, neither my wife or myself had any opportunities to learn an instrument , but were both pleased when both our daughters were young musicians :)

Very powerful shot, Phil. But I like the expression you captured in the colour version.

I usually prefer colour but this time I like the b/w best, nice textures and tones and bokeh background.
