I was in Hockley, Nottingham this morning, taking a short cut along Stoney Street to the Lace Market, I saw a young lady with green hair setting up the outside tables and chairs seating area of the Angel Microbrewery Pub. I decided she would make a great stranger so went to introduce myself and ask her to be part of my strangers project.
Meet Hannah, who is a supervisor at the Angel Microbrewery.
I asked Hannah if she would stand in the doorway as it would be a great setting for a shot (a frame with a frame, I do like doing this in my portrait shots).
Hannah has been a supervisor at the pub since April. “When Covid restrictions were lifted and places started opening up again” she told me.
I asked Hannah if she was from Nottingham. Hannah told me she was from Donny (that’s Doncaster in South Yourkshire, which borders Nottinghamshire)
I told Hannah she didn’t have a broad South Yorkshire accent. Hannah told me she had put Donny behind her and was moving on (well words to that effect) including her accent.
I asked about the pub and Hannah told me they brew their own beer. “On site?” I asked and Hannah pointed to some massive stainless steel vats in the window.
I thanked Hannah for the photoshoot, gave her a contact card, we bumped knuckles (an alternate to shaking hands in a pandemic) and told her the photos were really good. I may be a bit biased , but I really love this portrait. I was tempted to post a black and white photo, but Hannah’s amazing hair is a big part of the story (I may post the black and white photo in a few days as it is good too)
Fav. Your portrait capture is just excellent. Looking at it on screen makes you think you are facing Hannah personally. I like the coloured hair even though it looks very artificial because of the colours but even Michaela dyes her her in strange colours nowadays. One of your best shots, well done.
Oh you definitely couldn’t post this in black & white….the colour of her hair with the colour of the framing door makes the photo really stand out. Fave.
@happypat pat thanks for the fave, i was reall pleased with the shot
@delboy207 thanks del for your visit and comment, i like to think that I treat all my strangers with respect , regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion etc. I get along well with everybody.
I think it was a great idea to keep this in colour for precisely the reason you stated. She has an engagingly enigmatic expression, rather Mona Lisa-esque. Nice one.
