100 Strangers : Round 3 : No. 289 : Gina, Danny and Dennis
I was walking Willow and Ruby (Granddaughter and Dog) at the Duck Park, it was getting quite late in the afternoon, 3 p.m. and the light was fading quickly.
As we walked the path towards the exit, I saw a lady with her two dogs and I smiled at her and told her that her two dogs were really cute.
We then had a lovely chat about dogs. I introduced Ruby our whippet dog to her and the lady introduced her two dogs to me, Danny and Dennis. I also introduced myself to her and Gina introduced herself to me.
Danny and Dennis are twin brothers, Danny is named after Danny O'Donoghue, lead singer of The Script. Gina is a big fan of The Script, she’s seen them several times, in fact at the last concert she saw, Danny held her hand and sang to her in front of 1000’s of fans at the Nottingham Arena. I told Gina, I was aware of Danny from his work as a mentor on “The Voice” TV program. I always thought he was a good man and so it seems he is, singing a song to Gina. Gina also follows several other bands, including the Manic Street Preachers, James Blunt and Keane, all of whom she has seen in concert.
Gina is a swimming teacher and teaches all ages and all abilities to swim.
When I asked Gina to be part of my strangers project she agreed without hesitation. I struggled a bit with the fading light, but the Sony RX100 did a good job. I shot the photos with Ruby’s lead in one hand and Willows pram next to me with the brake firmly on. Willow chuckled away admiring Danny and Dennis, while Ruby had a dog “sniff off” with the twin dogs.
I’ve sent Gina some photos and she really likes them, which is always good to know. I sent her some links to my online photos and she told me my pages were really cool. Thank you for taking part in my project Gina, it was really nice to meet you and your fabulous dogs.
I a,ways love the way you connect with your subjects, sharing something of yourself with them ( and us). This was a great portrait, but I was amazed at how early the skies darken in your part of the world. Oh well, just a few more days and we’ll be heading back to long days and short nights!
You always bring such richness to both the portraits and the stories of your strangers Phil. This is a lovely image and you managed the light extremely well. It seems Danny and Dennis were less inclined to pose than Gina was!
How interesting, Gina sounds like she has a very full & rewarding life. I expect she is quite well known to her bands she follows. I know Danny from The Voice too….he sounds like a lovely chap. Willow was a very good girl while you were busy. Well trained granddaughter & Ruby.
