This was once the office / factory where I worked

I now have a senior person bus pass, so I decided to use it for the first time on Wednesday.

A bus to the city and a tram (you can also use your pass on the tram) to Beeston.

I went on photowalk around Beeston Rylands.

When I graduated from Uni in the late 70's I went to work for a big electronics company based in Beeston , Nottingham.

The factory had almost 8000 employees on site, my office was probably in the rear garden of the second house block in the picture.

When I left the company to make another career move in 1990, the population on site was down to 3,500 !!!

Today the factory has been demolished, there's still a few industrial units , workshops around the area, but a significant proportion of it appears to be Barrett Housing.

Progress? Well the industry changed dramatically in the time and the company changed owners a couple of times and eventually relocated outside the UK.

Anyway it was good to see how the area had changed. I've been to Beeston several times since I left , but never visited the Rylands area !

Mote buss pass photowalks to come
I bet that was a culture shock Phil - you are lucky to have a bus pass, there are no buses where I am!

*sigh* We can never go back, can we?! They look like they'd make nice homes though.

Great perpective and a nice memory for you. The bus pass is a formidable thing when you live in a city. The company I worked for right after university is no longer in existence either :-)

Quite the trip down memory lane!

Fun to have a bus pass so you can go exploring! Interesting to see how things change overtime - hard to imagine this as a 8,000 person office.

This looks first class - been converted into apartments! The world is your oyster, Phil!

Great to have that pass to use! I have a pass too, but it gets me east or west. Nothing in between because of the relative remoteness of where we live!

Oh how nostalgic! I remember trying to find the house where my Dad was during the first night of the blitz in London but it has long been pulled down and turned into flats.

Fav. Beautiful shot and row of buildings. A very interesting story to go with it.

Lots of changes since you worked there Phil. About ten years ago Phil & I went back to Berlin & I remember how shocked we were to find not only our flat but all the ones on our side of the street had been knocked down. We tend to think that everything stays as we remember it, but life goes on …..

Noce to revisit old times and places
The new housing looks pretty smart

It’s the way it goes these days……a change of working structures & industries. Sad really but we have to go with the flow. You would hardly recognise where you were.
I happened to be in the vicinity of where my brother lives yesterday so thought I would pop in but couldn’t find his house! So much building & change of roads….I gave up in the end!
They come to us normally & are doing so tomorrow but it was frustrating.

Always interesting to go back and have a look. Congrats on the bus pass.

Love the bus pass. Our concessional bus pass means the most you pay for the whole day is $2.50. The ferry alone would cost me $6 one way. Love it!
