Old and New by phil_sandford

Old and New

No apologies from me, It's the weekend, I'm at home, the sun is shining (for now) and my Dahlias are in bloom.

This is also one of the new ones (very new ones to be honest) and the old and new of the title is referring to the bloom that is totally out, on the right of the picture, and the one on the left that is not so.

This is only the third year of Dahlias in our garden, I don't know why we didn't have them before, possibly b ecause I thought them difficult (lifting and storing over-winter, which as you know, I didn't do this time) as they are quite stunning; so many different varieties, different colours and they provide that colour from around end of Jun right up to the first frosts. They also make great subjects for photographs

Not half bad on black if you feel the urge

Wow ! Those Dahlia colours are amazing. A+

I imagine you and Carol will be dividing those dahlias come winter, since all the old and all the new are blooming and growing. You can start your own dahlia garden center! You have dahlias in colors I've never seen before. This is a beautiful color!

They are beautiful on black. We've never grown them - do you have to lift the corms in winter?

@boatman137 @dawnee @louannwarren @ludwigsdiana @beryl @paul10 @caitnessa @lovingandsharing @quietpurplehaze @shylaine3304 @carole_sandford @happysnaps @susiemc @mandygravil Many thanks all

@mandygravil You are supposed to lift them immediately after first frost of winter, which I did the first year. Second year, life got in the way with illness in the family and I didn't get around to it; they all came back this year in abundance. so I guess it's all down to what sort of winter you think you are going to get as to whether you lift them, or what sort of winter you did get as to whether they survive

@phil_sandford Great, thank you for that - I think I will give them a try.
