What an occasion. The focus of the entire nation on just the one person. Well done Penny Mordaunt for carrying that sword throughout the ceremony like she was Xena; Warrior Princess.
In all seriousness, we Brits know how to do pomp and pageantry.
@monikozi She is a Conservative Member of Parliament, Leader of the House of Commons and leader of His Majesties Privy Council (along with the Prime Minister (if you’ve seen the film, Young Victoria, Paul Bettany played the role (and wore the uniform as many did today)) Mordaunt’s outfit was made especially with that uniform in mind.
She ran in the race to succeed Boris Johnson, sadly as the World knows, Liz Truss won it.
@boxplayer If you've seen the film Young Victoria, Paul Bettany played the leader of the Privy Council and wore the uniform of them in the film (as did many yesterday at the Coronation).
Mordaunt gave in interview in The Times yesterday, that when she went to the 'Coronation Dressing Up Box' there was nothing for her to dress in (when the Queen was crowned, all the members of the Privy Council were men), so she had her outfit designed as a feminine version, with the homages to the male Privy Council Uniform, she paid for it herself and, in her words, "after tomorrow, I will put it in the 'dressing up box"
Oh I so do wish she'd won the Conservative Leadership election instead of Liz Truss.
Such a hard job so well done, poor King Charles looked as though he wished it was all over!! Yes we do know how to pomp and ceremony, I thought the 3 cheers were amazing!
