I haven’t baked a cake in years, literally years. This was evidenced that I had to throw out the Self Raising Flour, Icing Sugar Nd Caster Sugar from the baking cupboard (threw out a load of bread flour also), all with ‘best before’ or ‘use by’ dates of 2020 (and earlier) and bought new. The baking powder was best before 2022, so I used that.
The village has a full programme of events for the Coronation weekend, one of which is a cream tea where they’ve asked for cake donations, hence this offering; I’ve asked on the village Faceache page what time the cakes should be dropped off at the village hall, not had a response yet and should I not get one, then I guess we’ll be eating this cake over the weekend.
Looks delicious. And I’m laughing…I made a cake today (first in ages) and also cleaned out the baking supplies, throwing out a bunch of outdated flour, etc.
Fab effort with the cake story, picture makes it look very nice, coffee and walnut is my favourite. Irrespective of 365 I have to congratulate you on the term “faceache” not heard it before but it is great and really describes my view on the dreaded thing!!
If it hadn't got weevils in it, surely the flour is ok??
