On Armed Forces day, I’m sat in the garden in the sunshine taking the time to reflect; to those serving in the Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy around the world today, to veterans I don’t know and to those I had the honour to serve with, and most especially to the men I knew who gave their tomorrow …….
Thank you for your service Sergeant Sandford. While we both served in the Army, you served in the Queen's Army and I in the Colonies we both achieved that same rank of Sergeant. You looked good in your dress uniform whereas I never attended any events that required formal dress attire. I always thought it interesting that in military units associated with Great Britain sergeant chevrons point down while in the US they point up.
I too feel honored to have had the opportunity to serve in the military.
@skipt07 Thanks buddy. It’s a selection of pictures from across my career. Though, Top right, outside the American HQ in Sarajevo, and bottom right, I’m wearing the Warrant Officer Class One rank badge, which was as high as I went in 24 years (still not sure how).
I had the honour of serving with all 4 of your services in my time, and yes, our chevrons were opposite to yours.
My favourite is the top middle one, in the snow…It’s Veteran Day here, as well. Both my husband and my brother did their (obligatory)18 months as officers; my husband leading a scouting platoon and my brother was a tank-commander, stationed in Germany; they didn’t hate it but I don’t know if they loved it either …
