The old fashioned method. by pyrrhula

The old fashioned method.

I had a conversation with the man and asked him why they remove the weeds by hand . He told me that the price for tractor diesel oil today was too high to be profitable for the onions . And he didn't think it was an insurmountable amount of work to do it with a hoe with his wife. The left side was already done and weather also cooperated.
Wow that looks like a lot of work.

To me it seems to be a heart-breaking job ! but then if you are fit and healthy , and have a love for your land you are prepared to make sacrifices like this if you want to make a living at this dire times !

That looks like a lot of hard work. So sad what is happening with inflation.

Wow- that is a BIG field to have to do by hand. I think there will be some farmers around here faced with similar fuel issues. Good shot.

A great story telling image, so much hard work ahead on this huge field. That will probably put the price of onions up too.

@monikozi : diesel. @ludwigsdiana No, the market makes the price. And with the boycot of Russia they decrease a lot.

Even with a hoe sounds like hard work if the ground is hard!

That is a huge amount of hard work. It clearly shows the effect of today's difficult times. I love the shot of the farmer and his wife in the field that they are weeding - fav!

What a heartbreaking yet inspiring story behind this photo! I can't imagine the work involved in weeding this field by hand. These farmers are resilient and strong spirited. A lovely photo, too, Ferry! Fav

Dat is een enorm veld om onkruid vrij te maken. Gelukkig werkte het weer wel mee.

He likes to be immersed in the field of growing things. Me, I spent close to 2 hours weeding today. i didn't really enjoy it and only got about 1/6 of it done.
