On a second look I think the material of this lectern cloth in the Norman church at St Cross is actually damask. (Which is a shame as that begins with 'd'!)

In any case, I think the main colour is just stunning!
I will call it close enough. And of course it is a lovely purple colour.

You could say it violet and although I can't run my hand over it, it does look velvety to me too. Whatever the material is, it's still quite pretty!
