stand-off

There were 30+ swans on the boating lake at Southsea yesterday. I was looking for an unusual shot amongst them when this little boy and girl ran full pelt down to the edge of the water. I did feel a bit anxious as the swans lined up but luckily the children quickly ran away again.

Please excuse a lack of my usual commenting this week: we have good friends staying for a few days. I'll catch up at the weekend.

Thank you for all your views, comments and favs and I was a tad bemused (but pleasantly surprised) to see both my shots posted yesterday had reached PP (each with a modest number of favs). The 'early bee on willow' did take a bit of work but the 'farm in the valley' really just presented itself. I loved that view the moment I saw it and it was more a question of framing it.
A wonderful compositition.

What a lovely moment. They both look very grown up for their age. Especially like the capture of his foot off the ground!

So innocent - lovely shot.

You shouldn't have worried Hazel, swans don't eat little boys and girls (Wink). Lovely capture.

So very cute! Great timing!

Great capture of the little ones watching the swans. I'd be a bit wary myself, having as a little girl watched my dad being chased by a swan as he was trying to photograph it on its nest!

@dolphin

Aha, photography in the genes! And a timely warning- I'm also always wary of swans - and geese!

Good shot! It's great that you were able to get the two little ones before they ran off. They make the picture, you can tell they are excited to see the swans.

@fjmom

Me. too. When mine were little I used to see danger everywhere!

@quietpurplehaze Yes, I'm even more in protective mode with my grandchildren. I think the more you experience, the more you know what 'could happen'.
March 27th, 2015
This is a great candid! good to hear they didn't get hurt, since swans can be a bit unprodictable!
