By chance today, Jan 12th, is the day, in 1919, that my dad was born. The last time he came to visit us, a few months before he died, he brought goodies/keepsakes: chrysanthemums from his garden, two family albums of unknown ancestors, a box decorated in brass 'relief', and a tea set, a wedding gift to him and my mum in 1941.
Like most people nowadays, we drink our tea in larger cups. Ray has been the only one to use this tea set - as a measure to make the breakfast porridge.
Memories of my dad:
easy-going,
methodical,
stoic (PoW diaries),
musical (trumpet and harmonica)
gardener (flowers and veg),
football supporter (Ipswich Town),
socialist (Labour Party),
photographer (not digital),
sense of humour (not averse to a Suffolk joke or two)........
I just know he would have been amused to see this china cup decorated with purple pansies and full of mealworms for the robin (or the blackbird.)
This is so lovely. The bird, the cup, the memories that are triggered. I think it is wonderful to associate certain things, living or not, with people who are special to us.
Dear Hazel , I do n`t want to be a ``betweter`` Some one that knows it all better This is a (Dutch) ``Merel ``
A Robin =, Erithacus rubecula A Blackbird, (Merel) =Turdus merula . A lovely capture of a regular visitor of our garden .
A lovely memory story too.
I measure my porridge by hand / feel ...I'm good at that :)

Hope it doesn't come out lumpy, Phil! (I don't really like porridge and I only eat it to please Ray!!)
Mealworms put out for the robin - but eaten by the blackbird.......
Ray uses the little cups as a measure for porridge oats! Did folk really only drink such small cups of tea?!
