Yarn bombing has created this Octopus's Garden at Pallant House Gallery, Chichester. It was created in association with an initiative called Outside In, which helps artists who are struggling for various reasons.
I can't knit for toffee (or for anything else) but I had fun making this collage. Probably should acknowledge the Beatles.....
Have just remembered that March 31st was my parents' wedding anniversary. They married in 1941 before my dad went off to war, and then spent nearly 4 years as a PoW, being re-united with my mum in May 1945.
She was a great knitter and seamstress and he was a great photographer so this becomes a tribute to their memory.
What a lovely story to go with your photo collage. Now I can't get That song out of my head:) Your parents went through a lot & WW2 affected so many people all around the world. Good memories
I had one of those as a kid. Put them on your bed, They are just strands of yarn braided. Not hard to make at all. Great collage and memory of mum and dad.
Beautifully presented, Hazel. I'm not a knitter either, I know how, but I don't have the patience. It grows to slowly for me (unless I use broomstick size needles).
Great yarn bomb collage, so colourful and a nice tribute to your parents.
Saltburn by the sea has a yarn bomb every year and it's always an interesting subject, we have had football, Alice in wonderland, royalty so look forward to see what it is this year!.
Thank you visiting the Octpus's garden at pallant House Gallery.
I am very pleased it inspired you to be creative. The work was created by community groups in and around Chichester and consists of knitting, crochet, pompoms and the octopi are plaited. I am Julia Oak, the lead artist.
Julia, thank you so much for your comment on this post and I am pleased that you found it. Through Google I guess? I did enjoy visiting the Octopus's Garden and took many more photos than I could post here - the textures and colours were wonderful. I had forgotten that I had made this a tribute to my parents. And now, over half a century after he wrote them, my dad's PoW diaries are going to be published in the summer.

Oh I might be able to do wild knitting!
Dacht dat wild breien al weer zo'n beetje voorbij was...
Now there's a question - maybe both - hadn't thought about it!
