"Till We Meet Again Gunner Bert Martin 1941 - 1945"
"We had a small canteen in the camp.......and we had a small amount of camp money. I managed to secure one or two notebooks and started writing a diary.
I haven't yet been able to get it published because it just contains the humdrum life in camp but maybe one day I'll be able to, I don't know."
My dad never managed to get his diary published. But, working with Ian Douglas, a fellow member of Winchester U3A photography group, who has so generously shared his time and expertise, I have been fortunate enough to realise its publication.
It was first published in paperback on Amazon and is now available as an ebook: kindle edition on Amazon and, for Apple users, as an iBook within iTunes - each currently on an introductory offer of £2.99 until Sept 10th.
I wonder what my dad would have made of the concept of eBooks?!
Great portrait of your Dad Hazel he looks very dapper wearing that cravat and polka dot shirt, its amazing how things change I'm sure he would have been delighted, I still prefer turning the pages of a book but do have a Kindle for holidays, can carry a library with you and takes up less room in the suitcase:)
A great memory and I am so pleased what you got your book published. We need to keep as many of the memories from such courageous people alive. Off to find the ebook now. Hubby will love it - as will I!
Thank you very much. Ask a favour? Would you feel able to lave a review on the book's page on Amazon - would be appreciated.
Wendy, thank you. I don't know who took the photo - certainly with a film camera and I think it was taken well!
