There's chocolate cake with crystallized ginger as well.
We bought this lovely little coffee storage tin in St-Vaast-la-Hougue in Normandy several years ago. A lady I got talking to in the supermarket told us about 'une épicerie très fine' run by M Gosselin. When we found it we realized it was indeed a wonderful grocery shop with lots of unusual goodies and visited it on subsequent visits to the area. I guess somebody in the family is still running it.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
Lovely to see this little tin every morning & to be reminded of your holiday & the story behind it....I would come if I lived nearer Hazel.......would be there in a flash!
I'll be truthful and say that the cake is just one I made up using the normal quantities of flour, butter, sugar, eggs etc with some cocoa powder and chopped up 3 or 4 balls of crystallised ginger and added a bit of syrup from the jar.
Looks a lovely coffee tin.
We can do tea, too - even a choice of tea!
