We went to Portsmouth today for a sunny blustery walk. I have to say that I cannot imagine the courage necessary to take the leap from these railings into that unwelcoming grey water - and I don't make that observation lightly.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
No, you would not have made your observation lightly. The picture captured, provokes a sad acceptance that all too often people suffer in silence. I think grey waters would sadly be everywhere for those poor soles. Your capture will make many think about life & it's fragility.
Two comments - 1. you have captured the dangerous water well. It is a sad happening world-wide, our largest bridge in Melbourne has had its sides extended to make it (almost) impossible to jump from. 2. Somewhere on the waterfront in Portsmouth is a sculpture of a chain link commemorating the departure of the First fleet in May 1787 from that spot. There is another link in Sydney to mark the arrival of the Fleet in January 1788.
Did you go up the Needle?
Do you mean The Spinnaker Tower - the answer is an emphatic no!!!!
Anne, I don't know that sculpture so shall look for it - thank you.
