.....in 1793 some carpenters working on the house left a fire burning.............

Might try to visit during the summer for more spectacular views but the opening hours are very restricted.

Lovely processing... it's amazing that so much of it still stands, when many of its contemporaries were torn down before they started listing buildings to be preserved. Thanks for sharing this!

Sometimes it's called Cowdray House and sometimes Cowdray Castle - I think House is the original name but it looks more like a Castle!

Oh my, I would like to be the carpenters who caused such destruction, what a shame, I think it may have left their reputation in ruins ! The sepia tones & ominous clouds give this majestic piece of architecture. an air of grand despair.

Wonderful wide angle photo Hazel....so much of the remains to see. Such a shame but I dare say it would cost a fortune to repair.
