The Brethren's Hall

I find the space and proportions of this room at the medieval almshouses in Winchester really appealing.

Thankfully, today's brethren do not have to sit on a hard chair around a wood fire, but each one has their own self-contained little flat.

Although the men who live here are called brethren, this is a secular institution.
