a royal bathing machine by quietpurplehaze

a royal bathing machine

Queen Victoria's restored bathing machine stands on the shore at Osborne House, the summer residence of Victoria and Albert and their family.

from Queen Victoria's journal, July 30th 1847:

"went into the bathing machine where I undressed and went into the sea....... I thought it delightful till I put my head under water when I thought I should be stifled."

(Thank you for the response to my photos from Isle of Wight yesterday which has made me feel it would be a shame to consign the rest to a file where I'll probably not look at them again. So this is the first of a few more, in particular taken at Osborne House.)
Super capture.

A portable bathing machine? How clever and luxurious it must have been at the time.

How wonderful to have this lovely "machine" on display. I was so intrigued that I had to Google it to find out more about it.
