hellebore by the potting shed by quietpurplehaze

hellebore by the potting shed

At St Cross, a few hellebores in pots by the gardener's shed gave me an opportunity for a close-up without trying to get down to their usual level!

The gardener, busy clearing up, came by to speak to me and told me that hellebores do not like the wet climate.
The b/w really brings out the detail here. Mine seem to have disappeared this year :-(

We're fortunate insofar as we've many Christmas roses. Remarkably and reliably, they come into bloom for the day itself! They grow effortlessly without any intervention and bloom for months. Sadly, they, aka ours, don't like to be picked and put indoors, although the leaves are splendid for flower arranging.

@s4sayer

I have picked flower heads, sacrilegious as it may sound, and floated them in water to take their photo.

Thanks for that Hazel, I'll give that a whirl ;-)

Very well done with lots of details and textures, but I have to confess that I would love to see this in color. Not a flower I am familiar with.

@khrunner

Kathleen thanks for your visit and comment. I would willingly have posted this creamy coloured hellebore in colour for you but find I have already deleted the original shot!
