The skies *were* ominous and thankfully the heavens did let loose because we haven’t have any rain for weeks. While it rained “hard,” unfortunately it didn’t rain long. :-\

@labelle Thank you, Karolina — I had *exactly* the same feeling when I chose it! Except for the cardinal in the top image, the candidates are all here: http://rhoing.posterous.com/early-summer-day-in-southern-illinois. I thought I would post the shot of the sky or the one of the horse and donkey. But there was something about this one that just tugged at me!
I love it too! I agree with Karolina above @labelle What lens did you use? It is so wide angle it is almost fish eye or something. That makes the donkey the star of the show. And what is on his legs?
@espyetta@labelle 18-55mm lens at 28mm, so certainly not even down to the widest the lens would go. Perspective is probably one explanation: I crouched down and shot between two of the fence timbers. To get a sense of relative heights and how far I had to crouch down, look at the images here, http://rhoing.posterous.com/early-summer-day-in-southern-illinois#donkey . Donk is one short little guy!
@labelle@espyetta@exposure4u@michelleyoung I sent this link to Donk's owner. The reply: "There is just something about a donkey that people like, almost universally. I wonder what it is exactly."
@rhoing I have that lens and your exact camera...which I think we have mentioned before. So it is the expertise of the photog and the his flexibility in being able to get on the ground. I had no idea how little Donk was until I saw him in that pic with the horse! WoW!
@kdrinkie Yeah, but he's got something on his lower legs. I have to remember to ask. The horses have the same thing. The horse who is still serving as an event horse is recuperating from a broken bone, so I'm wondering if it's a protective pad (a la the shin pads that baseball catchers wear). I must ask!
@espyetta What are on her legs? Those are bug shields so the horses' and donkey's legs don't get bitten up. (With twin nieces visiting, we got the deluxe tour at the horse barn today! One of the nieces had a campus visit to our employer yesterday; she may come to live with us and go to school where we work.)
@rhoing Well. I never! I need some of those for my legs! LOL...but really! I do. We went to dinner by boat with some friends last night. Docked it at this dock and then walked up behind this restaurant in an old house through their back field path. I am eaten up today. Darn. I needed those stylish leg wraps.
