The waning days of summer…

Our daily high temperature is still reaching into the mid-70°F’s (mid-20°C’s), so there is still some moth- and butterfly activity. I think this is probably a male Sachem (Atalopedes campestris, rather than a skipper), found in the campus garden in the afternoon.

Confirmed at BAMONA as Hylephila phyleus (family, Hesperiidae; subfamily, Hesperiinae) or “Fiery Skipper”; http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/sighting_details/745899

Sigh; wrong again! But then I knew it came down to either Sachem or Fiery Skipper.

The plant is Lantana camara (family Verbenaceae).
