Optical distortions by rhoing

Optical distortions

Lousy photo, but it’s practically all I have as today was consumed by grading and [thinking about] packing. My camera was an eleventh-hour afterthought and this shot was in twelfth-hour (-plus) desperation. These lighted garland strings usually get strung first at our house.

I shot this how it looked best in the viewfinder, but it doesn’t look right and appears to need a bit of a “rotate” fix. My pre-midnight shots were of the wreath over the mantel, but the lens “curved” the straight line of the mantel edge. So what’s with camera lenses “curving” straight lines?

Wow Thom. I have always been a huge fan of open staircases, and especially the spiral stairs. Beautiful.

@digitalrn Thank you, Rick. The open staircase is what the front door opens into, http://365project.org/rhoing/365/2011-07-22, and that's what struck us the first time we saw this house!
