Gray moth by rhoing

Gray moth

Extremely well-camouflaged on concrete, but not quite as well on tree bark. We celebrated my birthday at Raymond & Jeanne’s, with Liz along for her first “Uncle Raymond” meal! After dinner we took Abbie for her walk and I spotted this moth in flight. Taken with the 60mm macro lens.

Submitted to BAMONA for ID. My suggested IDs were Common Gray (Anavitrinella pampinaria) or Double-lined Gray (Cleora sublunaria), both in the Geometridae family, but watch it be something else entirely. I think moths are much more difficult to identify.

Yep; wrong again.

Confirmed at BAMONA as “Protoboarmia porcelaria” (“Porcelain Gray”); http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/sighting_details/918478
