Angel Wings by rhoing

Angel Wings

I went to the lake and almost used today’s post to show how much water was in the cockpit of my scull when I got back to the dock. I got caught in more wind than I expected and many waves sloshed over the deck. The caption would have been something like, “Yeah, the water’s supposed to be on the other side of the cockpit … outside!”

But I went to the greenhouse earlier in the day and especially liked this shot of a fern. Not yet confirmed by my expert, but I think this is a fern in the “Pteridaceae” family known variously as “Angel Wings,” “Tailed Maidenhair,” “Trailing Maidenhair,” and “Walking maidenhair.” Its scientific name is “Adiantum caudatum.”

I like this image half for the shapes of the pinnules or lobes and half for the separation of the subject’s foreground and the background behind. I think it has a “magic eye” sort of look to it! See a recent post + comments, http://365project.org/rhoing/365/2014-06-01

Isn't that a neat pattern. I like how they all do not line up perfectly on the same stem, how neat
