Frank Lloyd Wright in St. Louis? by rhoing

Frank Lloyd Wright in St. Louis?

Yes! Clare learned of this Wright design earlier this year and we stopped here today with Grace on our way to drop Grace off at the airport to fly home.

“The 1,900-square-foot residence built for Russell and Ruth Kraus was the architect’s first building in the St. Louis area, and is one of only five Wright designs in Missouri. It is an excellent example of Wright’s democratic vision, intended to provide middle-class Americans with beautiful architecture at an affordable cost.

“The home is notable not only for its architectural integrity, but for retaining its original Wright-designed furnishings and fabrics. With a floor plan composed of two intersecting parallelograms, it is considered one of Wright’s most geometrically complex homes. The home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places because of its significance in American architecture.”

Alas, indoor photos not permitted, so I had to be content with outside shots without getting in trouble…

It's very beautiful, and Charlie will be so interested as it's in his line of work. The neighborhood I grew up in had several houses inspired by this design, and the style seems to be making a comeback now too.
