Monarch on a packing day [Filler] by rhoing

Monarch on a packing day [Filler]

But 7+ years after my first Monarch post, I have learned something from this photo. With my 18th post of a Monarch, in comparing this one to a recent post, http://365project.org/rhoing/365/2018-09-21 I noticed that this one has a prominent black spot on each of its hind wings near its body, while the recent post does not. Off to BugGuide!

From https://bugguide.net/node/view/540#id » “Identification
“ADULT: large, with conspicuous black veins on orange wings.

“Males have scent-scale patches on hindwings, prominent when wings are open, and just possible to see when wings are folded.”

So this is a male and the recent post was a female. :)

Confirmed as a male “Danaus plexippus” or “Monarch” at BugGuide, https://bugguide.net/node/view/1631565

WOW! Not that's the kind of capture anyone would love to get.
