Skipper on Zinnia

Nothing special. A 5-frame day and one of them was an empty cicada exoskeleton that had been shed. I didn’t think anybody particularly wanted to see that! Enough said. Well, except maybe for Jesika!

Probably another Sachem, as I want to get a second Sachem data point in BugGuide for Illinois in July. Currently the only observation is from 2007.

I find exoskeletons fascinating. In fact I have a small collection of them including a spiders & a Shieldbugs. Beautiful Skipper.

I like this close-up. The butterfly looks like it has big black eyes and a big black nose.
