Guess it wasn't totally dead, but the old tree seemed to be dead for the most part. Think the leaves may have been somewhat confused also, due to the colors. Almost looks like new growth, but the others looks like fall colors.
This is most interesting. From the looks of most of the tree I wouldn't have expected there to be any life left. Alas, it's produced a lovely cluster of color.
