Hardy little native orchids.. by robz

Hardy little native orchids..

These small terrestrial orchids have managed to shoot from their underground bulb and produce a small flower - even though we have had no rain for weeks and weeks. They will only live for a very short time - days only in this weather. The pink one (pink lady) is about 1/2 inch long - the purple one (purple wax lip) is about 3/4 inch long.
They are very pretty. I had no idea that orchids grew in the wild.

@homeschoolmom @kiwinanna Thank you both for your lovely comments - these little fellows are one of the main reasons that we bought our block - it has about 6 or 7 different types of these orchids - we are very lucky. Thank you for looking - I'm so glad you liked them.

@cruiser Hi again Chris - you are very right - we truly appreciate them - and just hope that changes in weather patterns don't cause some of them to die out.

Nice presentation of these lovelies... glad to see them thriving.

@granagringa The flowers themselves are pretty much SOOC - unfortunately we should have about 6 sorts to put into a collage - these two are the only ones which have been able to cope with the dry. It's a big worry.

Absolutely gorgeous. But very worrying to hear about the effects of drought on the others.

@olivetreeann Hi Ann - thanks for your comment. The little natives are very tiny and hence are often not appreciated. If you like them though - then you tend to become besotted! The thrill of the hunt!! :)
