This drought has gone well beyond a joke. Read in today's paper that some farmers are begging for ammunition to shoot starving stock because they can't afford to buy any.
Hi Sarah, Dorothy, FB, Ko and Suzanne - many thanks to all of you for your encouragement on the drawing effect - so easy to do on Elements - the original was quite uninteresting. Just a dry dam, unfortunately.... and there's not much rain predicted. @sarahlth@madeinnl@suzanne234@fbailey@nobled
@golftragic Hi Marnie -it's not too good here but at least we still have some water in our dams - and many of the farmers have bores down into reasonable water. It must be so depressing for farmers further out - some haven't had any decent rain for 9 years. It conjures up images of inland areas of Qld becoming unlivable - I mean, can people and animals really live in areas where summer temps regularly go over 50deg.....
@robz Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. The droughty conditions are pretty widespread too. I know my son is hanging out for rain, he farms in the southwest Riverina. Gets hot there but not up to 50deg yet, thank goodness. Mind you, I do remember being up there in 48deg heat in the '80s, not a bunch of fun.
I remember one summer about 20 years back now when we lived near a reservoir and a drought set it. It almost completely dried up. You could literally walk from one side to the other where it used to be quite deep. It was pretty scary. Interesting effect- it really brings out how dry it is.
@olivetreeann Hi again Ann - thanks for your comment 0n the processing - Elements does seem to do these effects nicely.. We are coming over to the UK in a couple of weeks and we've been following your weather conditions. It looks like your rainfall has been very low also? Not a nice green UK at the moment.... Cheers Rob
@robz I'm in the United States but in chatting with a friend in England I've learned their weather has been as unpredictable as ours. They've had both rainy and dry spells. I hope you have a great trip though- and who know, maybe someday you'll travel to the state of Pennsylvania and I'll meet you!
@olivetreeann Sorry Ann - I think I did know you were in the USA - from your flag series!! Just another sign of the dreaded old age. And it would be lovely to meet you if we ever make it over your way! Cheers Rob
