The Guildford Hotel - one of the oldest and one of the newest....
Once a classic, historic pub in Perth, then burnt down and closed down, then renovated by a genius and reopened!
They left the reminders of the fire and the history and incorporated it into the new - with fabulous results.
When we were on honeymoon in Crete, a local restaurant had just burned down. The ceiling was open to the skies and the burned timbers were still there like this. It was very atmospheric. This looks a great hotel
@granagringa Hi Granagringa. Yes, I was given a camera by my daughter. It's a small, fully-waterproof camera that she thought might be handy on our big trip. It's about 7 years old and absolutely amazing. I think it must havea better lens than the Canon - it's photos are much more distinct and focussed. It also has an enormous number of built in features - which I'm only now investigating. And, it's actually smaller again than the Canon. I think I've become a Sony convert! Cheers Rob
@helstor365 LOL Helge - I had to Google the word urbex! Such a good word - and it is such a fun activity. Although, I'm sure that I'd find some of the more isolated and abandoned scenes a bit scary..
This old pub just made you keep walking around and exploring and photographing - it was fascinating. Thanks for introducing me to such a good, new word! Cheers Rob
They did a fantastic job with the design of this pub. I love how they brought the tragic past into the present with a new are restored point of view. Good shot!
@casablanca Hi Casablanca - you've described it perfectly. Last time we saw it it had only just burnt down and was all boarded up. Most people thought it would be demolished. What they've done with it is simply genius. Helge had a perfect phrase for it - "coffee with your urbex" - my new word for the day... :)
