Practical - no unnecessary frills...

This is quite typical of a residential street in Edinburgh.

Look so old and grey these buildings

When we went to Scotland I thought the buildings were quite dour..must be solid though and maybe cope with the weather well.

Those chimney pots always fascinate me.

I have friends who live in a tall terraced townhouse in Edinburgh centre. It's a wonderful house. No frills externally but absolutely beautiful with high ceilings and amazing staircases inside.

@madeinnl Hi Ko - they are very old - but I really liked them - they had such character...

@rosie00 Hi Lesley - I loved these old buildings - they seem to be such perfect reflections of Scottish practicalities.

@suzanne234 The greyness really suits them though - I loved them and Edinburgh. :)

@golftragic And the way they line up - it must be something to do with the walls etc. They really are so good!

@casablanca I would have loved to see inside some of them. I really liked them and their architecture. :)

@robz Given the Scottish climate I imagine each flat (or whatever) needed several fire-places. A lot of the buildings there are constructed with granite and would be as cold as charity in the the winter.
