A happy message from Oslo by robz

A happy message from Oslo

Oslo had diverse messages. These cheerful teddy bears were out there high and mighty above the streets. Many of the streets had outdoor seating for dining amongst cheerful flowers. There were vintage sailing ships in the harbour and wonderful museums celebrating the nautical history of the city. But then some of the buildings and institutions had statues and frescoes reminiscent of a very socialist state.
.............. and the sculptures in the park are still anatomically correct??!!

This is a happy smiley shot!!

@30pics4jackiesdiamond I didn't answer until I'd had a chance to check - they definitely are!!! Oslo was better than we had expected - we really only went there to catch a flight to Kirkenes - but found it interesting and progressive. Cheers Rob

@madeinnl Hi Ko - isn't it always the way - we travel to these places and then the main memories you bring home are quite weird - eg these big teddies!!

@golftragic Hi Marnie - I've probably worded it very badly - history and sociology aren't my strong points ( actually - not much is these days - it's too easy to be retired!!) It was just that some of the buildings and statues reminded me very much of those in Prague - the ones that were built and erected during the communist regime. They did not go in for beauty or fun or design. And yet Oslo also had so many lovely statues and parks and relaxing areas. It was strange to see them intermixed. Don't know if that makes any sense? Cheers Rob

Yeah, I kinda know what you mean Rob. But Norway was never behind the Iron Curtain. Nevertheless, the parallels are interesting.
