This swan had already warned the dog he wasn't happy but the dog insisted on winding him up. In the end the swan had a go at him. The lady with the dogs seemed to think that the dog would have attacked the swan but from what I saw, I think it was more likely the other way round. She kept calling the dog but he didn't pay a bit of attention until the swan sorted him out! Unfortunately, some dog owners aren't as good as other because recently a dog chased a deer into the water resulting in the animal suffering from exhaustion and having to be pulled out by some colleagues at work. Sadly the deer died despite being taken to a vet. Most dog owners are responsible owners and train their dogs properly but it's a shame that some don't
I am glad to hear the bird won. I'm a dog owner myself and I train my dogs and keep them on leash so they are not harassing wildlife (if it comes into our fenced yard, though, it is fair game! ;) It drives me nuts when one idiot with a dog lets the dog do something horrible and give a bad name to dog owners everywhere.
Yes I agree Rosie. Luckily my dog is so used to me photographing birds, ducks, swans, cows, horses and so on that she completely disregards them. I wouldnt have it any other way.
Some dog owners don't seem to realise that swans will attack,I've seen it happen several times!!I never take Gemma with me,if I'm going to take shots of them.
Lovely shot. Even without your narrative the photo alone could have told a great story. You have captured the determination of the swan. This is a very good caputre.
