These 3 ferry boats of the Gozo Channel Line link the two major islands of the Maltese archipelago. They ply to and fro 24 hours a day carrying over a million cars annually and who knows how many million passengers. Gozo is very popular with people living in Malta – many take every possible opportunity – especially on long week-ends – to cross the 5 km stretch of sea separating the two islands (about 25 minute trip) to get to the sister island for a short break. I may say also that Gozo is very different to Malta: it is much more rural, it is more hilly, there are more open spaces and there isn’t the hustle and bustle one finds in Malta. There has been for many years a faction in favour of linking the two islands by a bridge or underwater tunnel but todate this has not materialised. In my view, should this happen, Gozo will lose most of its charm for those crossing over for a short, or even long, holiday.
