ACIREALE CARNIVAL (4)

Another float during its show. We tried to be at these intersections to have a better view of these floats. In fact, people crowded in these areas to have a good view of these pieces of craftsmanship.
It was around 1880 that carnival in Acireale as it is today took shape when Sebastiano Longo began working with papier-mâché with the intention of creating the first allegorical float (by that time, papier-mâché was already widely used for the creation of sanctuary statues). From then on groups of artisans entered into competition by creating their own float thus allowing the Acireale Carnival to become a tourist attraction of authentic folklore and to carry the title of “the most beautiful Carnival in Sicily”.
What a spectacle. Great colours.
