This advert covered completely one side of one of the bus shelters of the public transport. Currently Europe is all focused on the UEFA Nations (Soccer or football) Cup which takes place once every 4 years. It is natural for advertising firms to use such occasions to their benefit. Because of its size and small population – less than half a million – Malta’s national soccer team is insignificant, although we gave some unpleasant surprises to major teams along the years. So Maltese people, apart from supporting their local side, support also a big foreign team. In the case of national squads, most Maltese support either Italy or England but there are also a good number who support Germany, Spain and Brazil. It is not infrequent to see flags of these nations flying on rooftops or hanging to balconies.
Yesterday, my wife and I (together with my camera) attended a pilgrimage with the statue of Christ Redeemer. I will post some of my shots in the coming days.
Thank you so very much for looking and for your kind comments on yesterday’s picture.
This is a great poster. I'm amazed at how involved people can become in supporting spectator sports. It happens in this country to but I'm not one of them.
I must be one of the very few that will be glad when its all finished I REALLY think football is totally boring and dont watch any of it. Like the shot though Dione.
I've been to an Olympic soccer game and a World Cup soccer game, but may never make it to Europe's crown jewel of soccer tournaments. I do enjoy watching it on TV though. This year it's been very hard to find the games- which is so annoying for someone who doesn't really care for baseball, basketball or football! Thankfully soccer continues to rise in popularity here. Fun shot.
