17th July. Continuing on the 4th day of our vacation in the Valle d’Aosta. This is one of the most photographed monuments in all France, This castle is in Annecy. The river is River Thiou. The Castle was built in the 12th century and was the home of the Counts of Geneva. The oldest part which dates from the very beginning is the Tour de la Reine (the Queen’s Tower). Between the 17th century and the 1940’s it was a barracks and today it houses a museum with exhibitions of Art and History of the area. Didn’t have time to go in there though.
No wonder this castle is the symbol of the town of Annecy.
Thank you so very much for looking and for your kind comments on yesterday's picture.
how beautiful! and what memories it brings back to me. I have stood where you stood when you took this. I fell in love with Annecy in 1999 when I spent four days there with friends in a touring choir.
