And yet more steps to climb.
The main aim of our one day trip to Sicily was to visit baroque buildings which are similar, or have some connection, to those one can see in Malta. And so following a good look around at Ragusa we proceeded to visit Modica, another Baroque town. This is St Peter’s Cathedral. I loved the angle of the shot.
St Peter’s Cathedral was originally built in mid-14th century but suffered from a 1613 earthquake and was finally destroyed by the huge earthquake which devastated Sicily in 1693 and caused also a lot of damage in Malta. The façade of the rebuilt church is of the late Baroque style, and the staircase is marked by statues of the apostles, and enriched with other statues and a balcony.
Thank you very much for looking and for your lovely comments and fav's on yesterday's picture.
This is a great shot- I love how your pov also accentuates the pilgrim's climb to the sanctuary as it symbolizes the path the faithful must climb to heaven. Beautiful shot! fav
BTW, how is JP? He is missing in action.
