20th August was our first day in Slovenia – just our luck: it was raining. We had a very professional guide who decided to change the programme for the day taking us to Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia. Took this shot from the coach while driving through the city. I walked to the bridge later and took other shots of it and the dragon but preferred this one.
This is one of 4 impressive dragons – one on each corner of the Dragon Bridge. Completed in 1901, this masterpiece of Art Nouveau architecture, marking the eastern limits of the city centre, was originally dedicated to Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria. But the name never caught on, as people found the green monsters a better point of reference. The dragons have become Ljubljana symbols and are now part of the city’s coat of arms.
Many thanks for looking and for your wonderful comments and fav's on yesterday's picture.
