Continuing with my shots from our Slovenia tour.
21st Agusut. At the top of Monte Lussari, (remember my shots of the climb in my collage of the day before yesterday) which is 1789 metres high is a pilgrimage church, where according to legend, in 1360, a shepherd discovered a statue of Virgin Mary among the mountain pines. This mystic Sanctuary dedicated to the Madonna of Lussari was also visited by Pope John Paul II.
In 1600, a small and characteristic village arose near the building, to host the pilgrims. The vestry, bell tower and side chapels were added later. After various events and its destruction during the First World War, the sanctuary was rebuilt and reconsecrated in 1924. Again it was restructured after an earthquake in 1976. Of the old furnishings of the church only the image of the Virgin Mary with Child was preserved.
Thank you very much for looking and for your wonderful comments on yesterday's picture.
