Abruzzo Day 4. 19th April.
Amazing artwork.
These are some of the shots I took in this awesome chapel within the Sanctuary at the San Giovanni Rotondo complex. In a way we were lucky because, being Holy Saturday (when the Catholic Church waits for Easter to celebrate Christ’s resurrection and therefore there are no services) The Holy Eucharist was away in the Alter of Repose and we could therefore stroll around the complex freely while listening to the commentary of our expert guide for the day. You can see her in the left picture explaining something to Christine (in the white sleeveless jacket) and others.
The second thing that amazed me in this place, after having been awed by the architecture which I showed in yesterday’s picture, was the wonderful scenes and colour tones in this chapel which seem to invite you to kneel down and contemplate the mystery of the redemption before the Eucharist.
I had to use a collages so that I could show you more of what I’ve seen and admired.
Thank you so very much for your great response, comments and the many fav on yesterday’s picture. Makes me enjoy the more posting these pictures.
Those walls are amazing. Beautiful paintings on it . In our country most churches are just withe with some bricks as during the image breaking they all are destroyed and repainted . Interesting info.
The artwork looks absolutely amazing Dione! They look so 3D it would be difficult to capture them in the 2D format of pictures- but you've done it really well! This looks like an amazing chapel. The colors alone are stunning- not to mention how tall the ceiling looks. Great collage!
