Abruzzo Day 4. 19th April.
Amazing architecture.
The Sanctuary of Saint Michael the Archangel is the largest building in the complex at San Giovanni Rotondo. It was designed by the noted architect Renzo Piano and was inaugurated on July 1, 2004. The bells and large cross in yesterday’s shot are part of this church though separate from it.
I am not one in favour of modern architecture, which I consider very plain and lacking character but I was awed by those wonderful ribs which hold the roof of this large building. Light, which was abundant, on the inside came from the stained glass shown in the bottom left picture.
Thank you very much for your wonderful comments and the favourable comments on my story. It makes me enjoy the narrative myself.
What a beautiful church and stained glass fabulous. It is interesting that this contemporary building can convey the same inspirational feeling that many of the older churches convey.
Great montage to show off this wonderfuly striking architecture. I love the lines of the building. Thank you for all the information you've provided to accompany the shots of this complex - it's always very interesting to learn about new places.
Thank you for the fav. I`m very pleased with it
