I was unsure whether to post this in colour or in b&w but finally decided to take the second option.
The church bells of the Sanctuary of Saint Michael the Archangel. The church is part of a religious complex in San Giovanni Rotondo, a village away from it all and unknown to the world until some time ago when a frail and sickness ridden monk was sent here so he could take in the clean air and, perhaps, take his strength back. I am talking of Saint Pius of Pietralcina, better referred to as Padre Pio, who was canonized (made a saint) in 2002.
The complex which also incorporates the Santa Maria delle Grazie sanctuary and the place were Padre Pio lived, said mass and greeted the faithful during his life, as well as a modern Way of the Cross, Via Crucis has become a pilgrimage site for Catholics and has become the second most visited Catholic shrine in the world.
Padre Pio lived in a convent in San Giovanni Rotondo from July 28, 1916, until his death on September 23, 1968. He is world-known for receiving the stigmata (bodily marks, pain, and bleeding in locations corresponding to the crucifixion wounds of Jesus Christ) which he carried from 1918 to his death.
Thank you very much for looking and for your wonderful comments on yesterday’s picture and the many fav’s. I was awed by your response.
Beautiful shot. And great decission IMO chosing bw. I like bw for someking of street or people shots because I feel color sometimes distracting on architecture and people :)
