Abruzzo Day 6 – 21st April.
After our mountain ‘hike’ we spent what remained part of the day at Guardagrele which is situated in the foothills of the Maiella mountain. Guardiagrele is the seat of the Maiella National Park. We had a short walk around the old part of the town. These bells without a belfry attracted my attention and I thought they would make a lovely picture. Each bell seems to have a motor attached to it so I presume they are electrically rung. Inset is the façade of the church.
This is the end of the road for my Abruzzo experience. I hope you all enjoyed the pictures and accompanying stories as much as I enjoyed posting them. Tomorrow I will return to shots from Malta.
Thank you all so very much for looking, for your wonderful comments and the many fav’s all along.
WOW..impressive. I saw a lovely steeple with a great looking bell and just as the "bell" started ringing I realized it was a recording!!!! So disappointed.
I don't think I've ever seen bells exposed like that- that's so interesting. Did you get to hear them ring? Excellent series Dione- as always I have enjoyed both your pictures and narratives.
The exposed bells make for such an interesting image -- I like the repetition of shape and the window into what is usually inside the belfry (along with bats?)
