This is the shell of the 100-ton gun I showed you yesterday which is at Fort Rinella. I managed to convince Max to stay a few seconds next to it to show you the size; he wasn’t very cooperative and made a funny face with the straw of a juice packet he had just drunk.
The shell alone of this big gun weighed one ton. If you enlarge you can read the info next to it. You can also read the date on the shell – 10.9.89 (10 September 1889)
Fort Rinella was handed to Din l-Art Ħelwa (This Beautiful Land - or Nation) a non-profit making NGO to be developed and cared for. Talking to the ‘instructor’ who was teaching the children Roman army tactics I was told that not many people visit the fort as hotels and tour operators prefer to take tourists to the more sought after attractions. I was very sorry to hear that as, I think, the fort is very interesting to visit.
Many thanks for looking and for all your lovely comments and the fav's on yesterday's picture.
Gladly it`s dismantled and save to stand next to it . A great shot
