Pron: ‘it tock’ in Rabat, Gozo. Another shot from our recent week-end in Gozo.
Took this shot on Saturday evening while heading down to the car park after hearing mass at Rabat. Rabat is the suburb of the Cittadella and has grown into the capital city of the Island. In 1887 the British renamed it Victoria in honour of the famous British Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations but the Maltese still refer to it by the old name.
It-Tokk is the centre of the capital city of Gozo and the name is actually Pjazza Indipendenza. The square is dominated by the Banca Giuratale (middle of the picture), built between 1733 and 1738, formerly the seat of the municipal government of Gozo and presently of the Victoria Local Council. In the mornings, there is an open market that shares the square with several open air cafes. The statue on the side of the square is dedicated to the Gozitans who died during WWII.
Many thanks for viewing and for the lovely comments and the fav's on yesterday's picture.
