SALT PANS by sangwann

SALT PANS

Still from my weekend in Gozo.
After staying some time watching the swans we went for a walk along a coast road which leads from Xwejni Bay to Wied il-Ghasri. The area is not good for swimming for the rough rocks and the open sea. The rocks have been put to good use since time immemorial for making natural salt from sea water. The middle guy in this shot is the person who runs these salt pans (I came to know that later). I think he was explaining to the other two people how the process works.
Many thanks for all your views, comments and favs. Always much appreciated.

Fascinating -- I've only seen salt flats that were dry. These are so pretty!

very interesting. Have the rocks been carved out into those squares to hold the water

@cruiser I think it was dual action: the rocks face has been partially smoothed and pieces of rock cemented together to enclose each pan.

I have a vague recollection that I may have heard of the likes of this, but it's so interesting to see it as you've pictured it! I love this site because there's so much we can learn from one another, and it personalizes it!
