This is one of the fortress’s lookout towers of Fort St Angelo with a clear view of the entrance to the harbour. The breakwater was only built in the late 19th century and completed in 1903.
Through the apertures, from left to right you can see the left arm of the breakwater, Fort Ricasoli and finally the Cottonera Lines – bastion walls that encircle Birgu, L-Isla, and Bormla, which together called The Three Cities.
